Role Overview 

We are expanding our core team and looking for a solid Full Stack Engineer (Mid+ or Senior) to step in, own critical features, and help us maintain momentum as the platform scales. You will collaborate directly with our founding engineers, tackling backend services and cloud architecture while handling nuanced, domain-heavy business logic.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for a Middle Full-Stack Engineer to join our team on a full time, short-term engagement. The role involves working across two ongoing client projects, with approximately 16 days of work per month.

You’ll work on modern web applications across healthcare and AI, using React, Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and other modern technologies. This role is ideal for a self-sufficient engineer who is comfortable working across different projects, taking ownership of deliverables, and communicating directly with clients.

Projects:

Project 1 - Healthcare & Insurance Platform
 

• Approximately 14 days/month.
• A long-term project for a UK healthcare and insurance company, with an additional focus on a dental insurance product. The engagement has been ongoing since June 2024 and currently includes an ongoing redesign of the dental insurance platform.

Tech stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Vercel.

Project 2 - AI Healthcare Product
 

• Approximately 2 days/month.
• An AI-powered product focused on persona-driven conversation simulations for the healthcare industry. The project has been ongoing since May 2025 and involves building and maintaining an interactive web application.

Tech stack: React, TypeScript, Supabase, Tailwind CSS, Zustand.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain modern web applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript

• Security & Risk Mitigation: Implement E2E security protocols for secure client-server communication. Protect sensitive user data on the server while deploying client-side risk mitigation, such as anti-cheat mechanisms and exploit prevention
• Act as the Technical Translator: Serve as the core bridge connecting UI/UX designers, Game Designers, and engineering leadership. You will help translate creative requirements into actionable code while ensuring the backend can support those designs
• Elevate the Team: Mentor developers in modern client-side and backend techniques, fostering a culture of high-quality code and technical ownership
• Set the Standard for Documentation: Create and maintain a unified knowledge base covering both sides of the stack – from API specs and server infrastructure to engine integration manuals
• Drive Agile alignment: Holistically scope features during sprints, ensuring technical requirements align with business goals while actively managing and reducing technical debt

What to Expect:

• Strong Planning and prioritization: You will organize the plan so that you and the team can seamlessly shift gears from optimizing a memory allocation issue in the morning to designing a stateless architecture handling thousands of concurrent players in the afternoon
• Stakeholder management: You will work with product owners and game designers to translate their vision into technical reality, reviewing mechanics and proposing a viable, performant alternative
• Architecture engineering: You will marshal monitoring telemetry to ensure the servers stay up during massive traffic spikes and adjust the approach to facilitate high availability

Mandatory Requirements

• 6+ years of development experience and 1+ year of leadership experience
• iGaming/Gambling experience will be a huge plus
• Proven Full-Stack Expertise: Deep professional experience in both game client development and scalable server-side backend architectures

## The Stack

- Backend — TypeScript is our centre of gravity, with Go on the projects that call for it. We choose the framework per engagement rather than forcing a house standard.

- Data — Postgres almost everywhere. Cloud depends on the client (AWS, GCP).

- Frontend — React + TypeScript.

- Infra — Docker and your own deploys. We have no dedicated DevOps team.

- AI — LLM application work is a regular part of our client projects: retrieval pipelines, embeddings, agentic workflows.

## What You'll Do

- Own backend services end-to-end — architecture, implementation, deployment, and what happens when they break.

- Write mostly TypeScript, and Go where the project calls for it. Different engagements make different choices; you'll be comfortable in both.

- Design data models, schemas, and APIs on Postgres — and know when the database should be doing the work.

- Build the React/TypeScript frontend for the features you ship. You take a feature all the way through the UI, not just to the API boundary.

- Ship your own work to production: Docker, CI/CD, environments. There's no DevOps team to hand it to.

- Build LLM-backed features on real client products — retrieval, embeddings, agentic workflows, Claude and similar APIs.

- Make the technical decisions. Pick the framework, shape the architecture, choose the tradeoffs, and defend them in review.

- Move between projects — client products and our own — across different domains and constraints.

- Talk directly to clients and to the founder. No layers in between.

- Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as part of your daily workflow.

## What We're Looking For

- 6+ years building and running production backend systems

- Deep TypeScript on the server, not just in components — you know where the type system earns its keep

- Production Go experience, or enough depth to get there quickly — some of our projects are Go and you'll be expected to work in them

- Strong Postgres: schema design, query performance, migrations

- Solid React and TypeScript on the frontend — enough to build and ship a complete feature without a frontend engineer alongside you

- API design experience (REST, gRPC, or GraphQL) and an opinion on when to reach for which

- Comfortable owning your own deployments — Docker, CI/CD, cloud environments (AWS or GCP)

- A track record of shipping without a detailed spec and without process handed to you

- Comfort working in the US timezone (overlapping working hours required)

- Upper-Intermediate or higher English

- Ability to own and drive features independently with minimal supervision

Nice to have

- Hands-on experience with vector search and embeddings — pgvector, Qdrant, Pinecone, whatever you've used. Side projects and weekend experiments count; commercial experience is not required here.

- Experience building on LLM APIs — RAG, tool use, agents, evals.

- Depth in more than one backend language or ecosystem.

- Early-stage or agency background: greenfield work, shifting requirements, direct client contact.

The Senior Fullstack Engineer is a technically accomplished and influential contributor within Immense Studio, bringing deep expertise across both backend and frontend disciplines to bear on the platform that underpins our game portfolio. Beyond delivery, this role helps shape how the team builds — contributing to architectural direction, setting quality standards through code review and mentorship, and taking ownership of complex, high-impact features end-to-end. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in fullstack platform development, thrives with autonomy, and is motivated by leaving things meaningfully better than they found them.
 

Engineering and architecture

• Design and deliver robust backend services, frontend UI components, data models, messaging systems, and API specifications across the studio's game platform.
• Take a leading role in architectural discussions and technology research, contributing considered, well-reasoned perspectives that help shape the platform's long-term direction.
• Translate complex functional requirements into precise, elegant technical designs that balance immediate delivery needs with sustainable long-term maintainability.
• Write high-quality, well-documented code with performance, reliability, and testability as non-negotiable standards.

Quality and technical leadership

• Work within and actively champion a test-driven development culture, taking personal accountability for the correctness and resilience of your output.
• Lead thorough peer code reviews that raise engineering standards across the team, providing specific, actionable, and constructive feedback.
• Act as a technical reference point for less experienced engineers, sharing knowledge, supporting problem-solving, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
• Proactively identify technical debt, architectural risks, and opportunities to improve platform quality — and drive the work to address them.

Delivery and collaboration

• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of outcomes rather than just tasks.
• Work closely with QA analysts, product stakeholders, and fellow engineers to deliver features that fully meet functional, technical, and commercial requirements.
• Contribute to the identification and implementation of process and automation improvements across the development lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date tracking of work, issues, and progress using project management tooling (JIRA or equivalent).

Who and what we are after? 
 

• 4+ years of professional experience as a Fullstack Engineer or in an equivalent senior role, with a demonstrable track record of platform-level delivery.
• Solid backend development experience in Python, or a comparable server-side language, with the ability to design and own services from the ground up.
• Experience working with distributed systems and microservice architectures at scale.
• Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy, taking initiative and driving outcomes without close direction.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine, deep commitment to software quality.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in cloud-based environments.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience across modern frontend frameworks (Angular, Vue, React, or equivalent) and contemporary build tooling.

• Experience in C# and .NET as an additional backend capability.
