About Project:
bloomon is a fast-growing online-only flower delivery service with a focus on exceptional floral design and customer service. Since our start in 2014 we’ve become an iconic European flower brand with more than 100k customers across 5 countries. Our Amsterdam HQ is home to a diverse team of 80+ people and growing.
We’re now looking for a Python Software Engineer to join our Product and Engineering team, building the software that powers our business. From scaling up our subscription platform to meet a 10x increase in volume and complexity to forecasting the number of Paradisaeidae needed for next month’s delivery, you’ll be surprised at the amount of tech in flowers!
Your day-to-day at bloomon
- Work alongside other developers, product designers, product owners and our broader team of supply chain experts, brand creatives and flower designers to solve real problems for customers and colleagues.
- Own and innovate our core subscription platform and algorithms: order generation, delivery management, invoicing, forecasting, customer data and analytics. Support daily operations whilst discovering and capitalising on opportunities that increase reliability, performance, and real-life efficiency. Ship code daily.
This video we made tells you more
About you
- You love the satisfaction that comes with knowing real people are benefiting from something you’ve created.
- You are curious about business processes and interested in solving operational problems through technology.
- You enjoy brainstorming with your colleagues to find the best trade-offs between quality, speed, and scope.
- Among your technical colleagues, you are known for “leaving the campsite better than you found it” because you’re diligent about improving the codebase.
- You are excited by the idea of working on a huge variety of projects, including balancing the demands of supporting daily operations, steadily improving the product, and making step-changes to the technical platform.
- You value the shared working habits and processes that make for an effective team: writing good tests, giving and receiving code reviews, writing clear documentation, holding retrospectives, etc.
- You are motivated by the opportunity to help shape our technical platform and engineering culture as we grow.
Other requirements
We are looking for candidates with strong computer science background.
- We are looking for candidates with 3+ (strong medium) or 5+ (senior) years of commercial experience.
- We do look more at the “quality” (what projects they worked at) of these years, rather than the actual “quantity”. We are very careful with people who switch too often or don’t switch at all.
- English is a working language and we require professional working proficiency from all candidates.
- Tech skills. We are looking for backend developers with python as primary/preferable language and experience with modern python web frameworks.
- Cloud (preferably GCP, but AWS would also work) and docker experience are required as well. The details of the stack are not yet finalised (currently we use python stack for our data pipelines, not for the web applications).
- First project. The new team will start with building new version of our FLOW (Fast Logistics Operation Workbench) application. The current version is written in a technology that we don’t want to support going further and we’d like to move it to a python-based stack. This won’t be just a rewrite, but also an improvement over the existing functionality.
- We estimate the project would take around 3-6 months. The application has a heavy backed (it plans and orchestrates all deliveries that we do via our network of hubs and drivers). It’s an essential step in our supply chain with the highest robustness and uptime requirement.
Tech we use
- Python, PHP, MySQL
- React, Redux, Node.js, RxJS
- Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, CircleCI, Docker
- Mendix (part of our Supply Chain stack but not your day-to-day)
What we offer
- A high level of responsibility, autonomy, and level of impact from day one
- A competitive package and regular compensation reviews — we reward great work!
- Annual allowance for personal development
- Modern work culture: no-meeting Wednesdays, flexibility to work from home, etc.
- Happiness Days: an extra day off each quarter just for you.
- Daily buffet lunch, team events and parties on our roof terrace, gym discount, mobile allowance, amazing free flowers and more.
