Application Support Engineer (ID: 8425) (offline)

Areas of Responsibility

- Process user tickets: clarify the issues, make sure enough details are provided (screenshots, steps to reproduce), progressively learn from your teammates improving skills to fix a number of tickets by yourself, if the issue is a bug or an improvement request, open and follow-up a related ticket towards the vendor
- Install fixes, patches and new versions from the vendor
- Validate fixes: run the steps to reproduce the issues as described in the tickets, check that the fix indeed solved them
- Monitor the health of the system and improve this monitoring when required (based on Nagios)
- Perform maintenance operations on the system like shutdown and restart, to support interventions from our sysadmin teammates like Linux and Oracle patching
- Create complex ad-hoc SQL queries and reports to retrieve information needed by the users

Qualifications

- Good knowledge of OSI model
- Web applications maintenance: HTTPS protocols, load-balancing, reverse proxy
- Experience with Linux system as a user on the command line interface
- Knowledge and adherence to develop best practices: versioning, documentation, testing
- Very good command of English

Will be an advantage

- Oracle: writing advanced SQL queries, knowledge of APEX 5
- Familiar with the setup and maintenance of java application servers (preferred Weblogic)
- Experience with the Netcracker inventory and service assurance (SPM) modules
- Python knowledge (used to automate tasks, write monitoring scripts, etc.)
- Familiar with Telecom technologies: IP, optical, signalling and voice in order to better understand the data model of the inventory system as well as interact with users (who are mostly telecom engineers)

Personal Skills

- Good communication skills to interact with users
- Precision and structured approach during troubleshooting of issues
- Fast learner, willingness to increase knowledge on the Netcracker inventory system, the BICS-specific data model and telecom technologies, etc.
