Network Automation Engineer (ServiceNow / NetBox / Ansible)
We are looking for a hands-on Network Automation Engineer to design, build and run automated network and firewall processes in a large enterprise IT environment. The core of the role is building orchestrated workflows and business rules in ServiceNow for change, deployment and lifecycle processes. These follow the client's Network Automation Framework (NAF). At the same time, the client is introducing NetBox as the "source of truth" for planned and target data, while the ServiceNow CMDB keeps the actual data, and you will help connect the two. You will use Ansible, Python, GitLab and REST APIs to control network and security systems and connected platforms such as NetBox, Infoblox, DNS, CyberArk and CheckMK. You will cover the full loop: roll out a change, check the real state of the systems and report the result back to ServiceNow. This role suits an engineer with deep network knowledge who can turn architecture concepts into working automation on their own.
Details:
- Schedule: Full time
- Location: Remote (EU nearshore only)
- Start: ASAP
- Duration: Long-term
- English: Fluent
- Type of collaboration: B2B Contract
About the project:
The client is a large IT service provider that runs critical infrastructure for the financial sector. It is changing how network and firewall changes are planned, approved and delivered, moving from manual work to automated workflows from start to finish. ServiceNow is the central platform, and its workflows start and control automation scripts, APIs and CI/CD pipelines. NetBox is being introduced as the single source of truth for target network data, and it works together with the ServiceNow CMDB. The setup includes Cisco ACI, firewalls, Infoblox, CyberArk, CheckMK and other enterprise tools that all need to be connected. The goal is automation that is fully traceable and version-controlled, helps operators in their daily work, and makes network changes faster and safer.
You have:
- In-depth networking knowledge: network architectures, switches, routers, firewalls, IP addressing, DNS and interfaces
- A good understanding of network operations and typical configuration and change processes
- Practical experience automating network tasks, ideally with Cisco ACI, Ansible or similar frameworks
- Hands-on ServiceNow development experience: Flow Designer, workflows, Record Producers, Service Catalog and Change Management
- Ability to run technical network processes through ServiceNow
- Very good knowledge of REST APIs and experience connecting ServiceNow with network tools
- Experience with CMDB, a source of truth, data standardisation and automated onboarding, offboarding and decommissioning processes
- Experience with Python, GitLab and CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to work on your own and turn architecture concepts into working automation solutions
- Fluent English
- Based in the EU (nearshore)
Nice to have:
- Experience with intent-based networking
- Hands-on experience with NetBox, FNT Command, Infoblox or CyberArk
- Experience with monitoring tools such as CheckMK
- Experience in the financial sector or other regulated industries
What to do:
- Build and maintain ServiceNow workflows that control automation scripts, APIs and other tools (e.g. system deployment via ZDP, software updates, decommissioning, configuration hardening, checking and changing firewall rules, system audits, health checks)
- Set up, configure and manage an orchestration platform in ServiceNow, with status dashboards that help operators carry out their tasks
- Extend and customise Ansible playbooks for Software-Defined Networking
- Connect and control GitLab CI/CD processes so the automation is version-controlled and traceable from start to finish
- Roll out target configurations and run workflows within the existing change management process, both on the network itself and in the CMDB, monitoring systems, DNS, CyberArk and other platforms
- Check the actual state after each change and report the result back to ServiceNow
- Automatically create the validation documents each change needs
- Write documentation that follows the client's guidelines, and train and onboard the team
