Drone Software Engineer (Autonomy and Field Operations) to $7000
Location: Berlin (on-site, former Berlin Airport)
Remote is possible for seniors, but 1 week per month in the office is a must.
Experience: 2+ years in drone automationAbout Our Client:
Our client is building next-generation AI-powered remote sensing systems. Our drone-based sensor platforms enable detection and inspection through soil and other materials, pushing the boundaries of sensing and recognition.
We work closely with government and defense-related customers and are well-funded to move fast from prototype to real-world deployment.
The Role
We are looking for a Drone Software Engineer with a strong autonomy and hands-on mindset to own flight automation and field testing of drone platforms carrying custom sensor payloads.
This is not a pure desk job. You will write software, fly drones, fix hardware, collect data, and test systems in real environments.
You’ll work in a small, senior team, directly with the founders, and your work will have immediate real-world impact.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain flight automation for drones (PX4 / MAVLink)
- Program and integrate sensor payloads on UAV platforms
- Conduct indoor and outdoor flight tests (all weather conditions)
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify drone hardware and systems
- Run field tests with GPSAR-based drone modules
- Collect and prepare data for AI model training
- Support customer demos, trainings, and field deployments
- Assemble and maintain drone systems, including 3D-printed parts
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in drone automation
- Strong experience with PX4 and MAVLink
- Solid C++ and Python programming skills
- Proven background in operating, testing, and repairing drones
- Experience with CubePilot flight controllers
- Valid driving license (Germany)
Strong Plus
- Experience with defense or security-related drone systems
- 3D CAD design & 3D printing
- Logged flight hours on multiple drone platforms
- Drone pilot licenses (especially >10kg UAVs)
- Experience with radar, RF, or sensor-heavy systems
- Clear communication and ability to work with customers
Who This Role Is For
You’re a good fit if you:
- Prefer building and testing over theory
- Are you comfortable getting your hands dirty in the field
- Enjoy early-stage environments with ownership and responsibility
- Have worked on autonomous systems, robotics, drones, or sensing platforms
Even if you don’t meet every requirement, apply — practical experience matters more than a perfect CV.
