About the Product

We’re building and scaling a fast-growing online education platform with interactive revision tools, question banks, video resources, assessments, and an integrated e-commerce component for digital and physical learning resources.

Role Overview

You will lead ongoing development of a high-traffic WordPress platform: design and evolve scalable architecture, ship custom functionality, and ensure performance, security, and reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Content to deliver impactful features to thousands of learners.

Note: This hire replaces prior developers who didn’t meet expectations. We need reliable specialists who communicate quickly and professionally in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the WordPress architecture (multisite/plugins/themes) with clean, maintainable code.
• Build custom plugins/themes (Gutenberg blocks/ACF/Fields API) and extend WooCommerce for e-commerce flows.
• Optimize performance (queries, object caching, page caching, CDN), Core Web Vitals, and image/media pipelines.
• Strengthen security (hardening, permissions, nonces, sanitization/escaping, dependency updates).
• Design scalable data models and integrations (REST/GraphQL, webhooks, LMS/analytics/payment providers).
• Set up and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, and release processes.
• Triage and resolve production issues; own incident prevention and post-mortems.
• Partner with PM/Design/Content to scope work, estimate, and deliver to agreed timelines.

• Provide code reviews, uphold standards, and mentor mid-level devs.

   

Must-have Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on WordPress (plugins, themes, hooks/filters, Gutenberg), strong PHP and OOP.
• Solid WooCommerce experience (checkout/custom pricing, subscriptions, fulfillment, tax/shipping).
• Strong MySQL/query tuning; familiarity with Redis/Object Cache and CDN usage.
• Front-end: HTML5/CSS3/JS (ES6+), build tooling (npm/webpack/Vite).
• Performance and security best practices for high-traffic WP.
• Experience with Git, code review, and CI/CD (GitHub/GitLab Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines).

• Clear, proactive communication in English B2+; fast response times and ownership mindset.

   

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless WP (e.g., Next.js), GraphQL, or microservices.
• Testing (PHPUnit, Playwright/Cypress) and QA automation in pipelines.
• Infra: Nginx, Docker, Terraform basics, observability (Sentry/Datadog/New Relic).
• LMS or EdTech domain experience; analytics (GA4/Server-Side GTM).
