Senior WordPress Developer

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Senior WordPress Developer to join our remote team. This position requires someone who can take full ownership of projects — from building new sites from scratch to improving and refactoring existing ones. You will also review code from other developers, enforce development guidelines, and ensure high-quality standards across all deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build custom WordPress websites and themes from scratch.
  • Improve and extend existing client websites developed by other teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress issues, including plugin errors, CSS/JS conflicts, and layout problems.
  • Build and update pages using Elementor or other page builders, including templates, global widgets, and responsive settings.
  • Implement landing pages and section layouts from Figma or other mockups.
  • Ensure performance, security, and coding best practices are followed across all projects.
  • Review work done by other developers in page builders and provide constructive feedback.
  • Mentor middle-level developers when needed.
  • Collaborate with SEO specialists, designers, and account managers to clarify requirements and propose solutions.
  • Validate and test all changes methodically to ensure quality and functionality.

DevOps & Hosting Fundamentals

  • Set up new WordPress sites on hosting environments (e.g., Kinsta, WP Engine, SiteGround).
  • Migrate sites across hosts and staging/live environments without downtime.
  • Understand and manage DNS settings, SSL certificates, and CDN configuration.
  • Use tools like phpMyAdmin, FastPanel, SSH, FTP/sFTP.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written English for documenting tasks and communicating with non-technical teammates.
  • Proactive, independent, and able to manage priorities in a remote environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on testing and quality assurance.

Required Qualifications

  • WordPress Expertise
    • 5+ years of professional experience with WordPress core, Elementor, custom themes, and plugins.
    • Ability to develop advanced custom functionality (not just page building).
    • Strong skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (vanilla and/or jQuery).
    • Experience translating Figma mockups into responsive pages.
    • Familiarity with page builders (Elementor, WPBakery, etc.), but ability to go beyond them.
    • Strong PHP knowledge for extending WordPress functionality.

  • DevOps & Hosting
    • Skilled in site setup, migrations, and performance optimization.
    • Comfortable with SSH, FTP/sFTP, phpMyAdmin, and Git workflows.
