Lead ML/AI Engineer

Our client,  is opening a Lead ML/AI Engineer position.
The company is actively expanding its AI direction and is looking for a specialist who combines deep technical expertise with strong client-facing skills: joining calls, leading discovery phases, and participating in pre-sales processes.

Formal experience specifically in a “lead” role is not strictly required — what matters most is that you feel confident as a technical expert who understands client needs and can propose solutions. Approximately 50% of tasks will be presales/discovery, while the rest will be project work.
 

Responsibilities

• Client communication: participation in calls, requirement gathering, discovery phases.
• Leading pre-sales activities: architectural solutions, estimations, risk analysis.
• Analysis and recommendation of libraries/tools to accelerate development.
• Supporting and conducting code reviews within teams.
• R&D activities and POCs.
• Interviewing candidates for the team.
• Troubleshooting and code optimization in critical situations.
• Influencing architectural decisions and mentoring.

Requirements

• 5+ years in Software Engineering with a focus on AI/ML or distributed systems.
• Experience in building and deploying RAG systems.
• Knowledge of OpenSearch / Elasticsearch, Python.
• Hands-on with LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector DBs (Pinecone, Qdrant, FAISS).
• Understanding of LLM fine-tuning, embeddings, semantic search, prompt engineering.
• Experience with high-load systems.
• Familiarity with AWS / GCP / Azure, Docker, Kubernetes.
• English level: Upper-Intermediate+ (comfortable client communication).
• Leadership experience is a plus but not mandatory. More important are the ability to structure information, present solutions, and collaborate effectively with clients.
