Job Description
We are looking for a part-time 3D Character Designer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone who has hands-on experience creating production-ready, realistic-looking, and fully rigged 3D characters for real-time environments (e.g., Three.js, Unity / Unreal Engine). You’ll work closely with product designers and developers to bring interactive AI-powered 3D Characters to life.
The role requires solid technical understanding of rigging, visemes, blendshapes, and optimized asset delivery for performance and compatibility.
This is contractual, project-based work. We’re looking for someone who’s detail-obsessed, self-directed.
Responsibilities
- Model high realistic and refine 3D characters assets based on visual references or concept art
- Create and adjust facial features to improve realism and match likeness
- Rig characters with clean, animation-friendly bone hierarchies compatible with Mixamo, Three.js, and/or Unity / Unreal Engine
- Design and implement viseme blendshapes for lip-syncing
- Create or modify clothing and hairstyles that deform naturally with body animation
- Proactively troubleshoot rigging, skinning, and export issues before they hit production
Maintain naming conventions, topological cleanliness, and performance-ready polygon counts
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience creating realistic rigged 3D characters for games, animation, or interactive applications
- Strong portfolio showing complete rigs, facial animation setups, and clean modeling practices
- Experience creating or editing visemes for lip-syncing, with understanding of phoneme mapping and blendshape logic
- Expertise in at least one of the following: Blender, Reallusion’s Character Creator 4 or Maya, 3ds Max
- Experience working with rigging systems compatible with Mixamo, Three.js, Unity, or Unreal Engine
- Understanding of real-time asset optimization, including mesh topology, LODs, and texture packing
- Ability to follow and maintain naming conventions for bones, materials, and blendshapes
- Experience testing character exports in target platforms and debugging animation or deformation issues
- Bonus: familiarity with iClone animation baking, MetaHuman, or Pixel Streaming setups
