Senior Frontend Developer / Lead (React) (offline)

ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Our client is a Europe based insurtech company. Their web and mobile based platform is disrupting how insurances are bought and handled, targeting young adults. They have recently closed a massive funding round and are accelerating their growth. So far they serve close to 100.000 consumers. They have an existing team of 100+ people, from which roughly ⅓ is in the tech team. Now they’re looking to expand their tech resources.

An ideal candidate would have seniority on the web and can be driving refinements together with a non-technical Product Manager and outlining suitable architecture roadmap for the project. This role needs great communication skills and a good level of english. You’re a strong front end developer who wants to bring ideas, make decisions and work closely with the Product Manager and rest of the team around you.

You have the chance to build a team around you and lead them. Based on your experience and desire, you can be a technical lead or just a person in the team who makes sure the team is working unitely. We’re looking to grow our client’s team with 2-3 additional roles, from a bit more junior / middle front end to backend developers. In future, this team will expand as well.

In general the stack is:
Frontend: JS, React, TypeScript, GraphQL
Backend: Kotlin, Java, Spring[boot], PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, AWS

They work mostly on developing the public website that is powered by React, Emotion (which is basically styled-components) and TypeScript. On top of this, they also use Koa, GraphQL with Apollo, and the headless CMS Storyblok. They hold open-source projects near and dear and hence most of their front-end source code is public.

DAILY WORK
On a daily basis there are challenging tasks on both front and back end, focusing on scalability, UX challenges, low latency and high availability. You will be jointly solving complex problems in their front-end projects. You’ll spend time developing and refactoring React components, and make designs come alive using CSS-in-JS and close communication with their designers. You’ll solve issues of code scalability as well as exciting UX challenges as the company expands both in number of products and to new markets. You’ll also write the occasional tests with Jest and React Testing Library.

More important than all of this, you will be part of a team that enjoys pair programming and takes code reviews seriously. They truly value knowledge sharing and learning together.

REQUIREMENTS
We believe that a good developer is a problem-solver who is capable of learning any new tech stack. The ideal candidate likes tech-savvy frontend work and has a strong interest in front-end software architecture. Having an eye for UI/UX design is also a plus.

The closer your experience is to their tech stack the better but they generally believe the following would make you a perfect fit:

You are fluent in Javascript for web production, preferably React.
You know HTML and CSS, and preferably also TypeScript.
You might also have some experience working with a headless CMS, GraphQL and Apollo, and a CI/CD pipeline.

They highly value a good attitude and communication abilities, and place a lot of emphasis on these "soft skills". Further, they look for developers who aim high and don't play it safe. They love creative problem-solvers who are not afraid to try new things and fail!
