Lead Transcoding Engineer (offline)

The Product is a leading free streaming television service in America, delivering 250+ live and original channels and thousands of on-demand movies in partnership with major TV networks, movie studios, publishers, and digital media companies. The system is available on all mobile, web and connected TV streaming devices and millions of viewers tune in each month to watch premium news, TV shows, movies, sports, lifestyle, and trending digital series. LA, New York, Silicon Valley, Chicago and Berlin.

About the role
Transcode services focus on the ingestion portion of the ecosystem - transcoding, ABR ladder handling, DRM handling, etc. The first service was launched into production in March 2021. The Transcode team supports several services. The language used during day-to-day work is GoLang.
With the team you will support several services, and also:

Responsibilities:
• Support an industry-leading Over-the-Top (OTT) software platform with the team;
• Attend regular sprint meetings, and work closely with other engineers to fix bugs, work on technical debt, and design & implement features.

General Responsibilities for Lead:

• Consulting your manager and ensuring each IC is trained properly.
- Regular design discussions.
- Regular training sessions.
- Expect to attend project meetings.
• Designing documents. The team will rely on you to lead the design efforts.
- AG Review and approval - including presentations.
• Helping to create work in Jira.
- Identifying and outlining Tech Debt tickets, KT tickets, etc.
- Grooming with the scrum managers and helping the product manager to keep the backlog full.
• Escalating and prioritizing the tasks (creating work tickets, helping product fill the backlog, etc)
Required skills
• Experience with Transcoding/Encoding:
- Knowledge of FFMPEG;
- Familiarity with Dolby Hybrik, AWS Elemental, or similar.
• Experience with compiled languages for backend web applications: GoLang (preferred), Java, C++, etc.;
• Experience with OTT:
- HLS and/or DASH;
- Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI), Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI), Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) Streaming, etc.;
• 8 years of experience in a relevant field (engineering, physics, mathematics, etc);
• Skills in Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Cloudformation, Kubernetes, Helm;
• Knowledge in GitHub, GitHub Actions;
• Experience with Jenkins, Circleci, Ansible, Salt, etc;
• Experience with Microservices Architecture;
• Using Testing Best Practices: Unit Tests, Automated test suites;
• Knowledge and understanding of Software Design Best Practices: Encapsulation, Decoupling;
• Upper-Intermediate level of English or higher;
• Ability to work a regular on-call rotation shared equally between the team members.
