American technology company with an office in Sweden is looking for a Big Data / Backend Engineer to join their multinational team.

In this role you'll be responsible for building Spark and Hadoop based systems that power the data pipeline for multiple key features of our large geospatial data. You’ll develop algorithms to match, conflate, identify anomalies, as well as improve the simplicity, scale, and efficiency of our systems to handle more sources and map features, as well as improve the freshness of our maps.

• Identify requirements of new features, and propose design and solution
• Implement features in a suitable programming language
• Take ownership of delivering features and improvements on time

Must-have Qualifications:
• Able to wear multiple hats, do what it takes ability and attitude
• Strong programming and design skills
• Deep knowledge and experience from Scala.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience in cross team collaboration and communication

Extra Merit Qualifications:
• Professional experience working with Spark is a strong plus
• Kafka
• Ability to design and implement APIs and REST services
• Experience with one or more application frameworks like Akka, Play (Scala), Spring
• Experience in big data ETL and data streaming
• NoSQL Databases
• Experience with GIS, Geographical Data and Toolkits such as JTS, ArcGIS, QGIS, OpenJump etc.
