We are acquiring a company that has built a digital mental health app to give us a head start in getting digital mental health therapy to the new level.
You will:
- Manage the existing 4 engineers who built this app, 2 new backend engineers, and continue growing the team
- Critically evaluate the existing technology. Our initial assessment is that the backend should be rewritten, and the frontend significantly changed.
- Focus the team on defining the architecture for the new product.
- Remediate the existing product while building new functionality in parallel based on the new architecture.
- Successfully launch the new product this year

- Create and uphold our culture of ownership and accountability
- Manage and mentor individual contributors including tech leads
- Spend 20-40% of your time in the code
- Be responsible for the overall planning, scope management, and execution and own SDLC
- Establish deep understanding of the domain, product, and customers and collaborate effectively with product and customer facing parts of the company
Be a bar raiser for your engineering team and our entire organization
You have:
- 6+ years of coding in a team environment shipping production code
- 3+ years of building mobile apps
- Solid engineering leadership experience including prior experience of managing people
- Strong practical knowledge of distributed system architecture
- Some experience with our tech stack of React Native, Python, Postgres, and AWS
- Passion for clean, modular, and readable code
- Deep curiosity to understand how things work in order to own and solve problems
- Most importantly, you are self-driven, well organized, curious, tenacious, and communicate effectively. You ask a lot of questions, dig deep, and come up with creative reliable solutions and execute repeatably with a great sense of ownership and accountability.
