PostgreSQL DBA (offline)

DBA Responsibilities:

∙ Lead the planning, testing, and migration of standalone PostgreSQL database instances to Orange Business Services PostgreSQL RDS.

∙ Develop standards and procedures to maximize DBMS performance, scale-ability, resilience, security, and data integrity.

∙ Review database design and integration of systems and make recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements.

∙ Perform schema management, database sizing, and maintain privileges.

∙ Monitor databases to optimize database performance and diagnose issues; ensure uptime and optimal performance of our multi-tenant PostgreSQL database systems.

∙ Create services and tools to automate typical database administrative tasks.

∙ Provide guidance and expertise on database options, risk and impact management, and costs vs. benefits analysis.

Skills and Expertise:

MUST:

Proficiency in administering PostgreSQL v9.5+
Proficiency in PostgreSQL backup & recovery, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning.
Advanced knowledge of SQL query execution, execution analysis & optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, etc.
Advanced knowledge of SQL schema modeling and evolution.
Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Proven ability to learn new concepts and remain up to date with new technologies.
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

GOOD TO HAVE:

Database servers running on AWS
Experience with Orange Business Services PostgreSQL RDS highly desirable.
Solid Linux fundamentals including kernel and OS tuning, as they relate to DB performance and security.
Proficient in automation using Batch, Powershell, Ruby, Python, or shell scripts.
Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, or Salt.
Experience using automation tools like Jenkins, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD pipelines.

WILL BE A PLUS:

7+ years of experience administering production, always-on, high throughput, OLTP RDBMS's with the last 3+ years administering Postgres.
Experience with geo-redundant database deployments (active/active, active/standby, etc.) is a plus.
Experience with other database management systems is a plus.
Experience in SCRUM or other agile development processes.
