Front End Developer (offline)

Athena Analytics specialises in analytics software and reporting tools for the education sector which transform large amounts of data generated by schools into meaningful insights for school management and teachers.

Our main product is the Athena Tracker. The Athena Tracker assists schools in helping students to achieve their own individual potential and alerts them in real time when a student is falling below this potential. The software uses all available student data (we currently have over 60,000 students on the software) to create these predictions.

Our analytics products are used by over 250 schools in Ireland.

This is a hands-on coding position which involves maintaining templates and creating from scratch. The successful candidate will also have to review our current front-end architecture and improve it while working on new tasks. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking design mock-ups and replicating them with code. You will be working closely with our team; especially design staff and developers.

Responsibilities:
● Develop new user-facing layouts and features
● Build reusable code and libraries for future use
● Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
● Optimize code for maximum speed and scalability
● Collaborate with back-end developers and web designers to improve usability

You will need:

● Proven work experience as a Front-end developer
● Strong experience on HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript and JQuery
● Experience working with Bootstrap and responsive web design
● Experience with Webpack and NPM/Yarn
● Experience with browser testing and debugging
● In-depth understanding of the entire web development process
● Version control/Git knowledge
● Excellent analytical and multitasking skills

At this moment our current architecture is monolith built with the help of Ruby on Rails framework and webpack as the javascript preprocessor. In the future, we hope to migrate our front-end part to the separate repository with the light-weight framework, such as Vue.js. It would be great if you have experience working with REST API and Vue.js framework itself as well, but this is not essential.

About Athena Analytics

Through working on our academic tracking software, the Athena Tracker, we have built a model to help estimate what a student would most likely have gotten in the Leaving Certificate in a normal school year, based on their previous results. This model is based on the results of 130,000 previous students, and all of their previous results.

These estimated results can be used as an unbiased, evidence-based estimate for schools, based on well researched and tested statistical methods. It will incorporate patterns specific to subjects and levels and will recognise outliers in students' previous results - ensuring no student is penalised for one bad result. More information available here.

Our usual State Examination Reports can also be used in assisting schools with understanding past results of this set of students at Junior Certificate level and past recent results of the school at Leaving Certificate. More information available here.
