You will coordinate efforts among workers and outside vendors, in a matrixed and geographically dispersed team environment. Success means delivering projects on time and budget while assuring continued quality and success with existing operational applications. It also means maintaining a consistent daily working environment, being proactive rather than reactive. As VP of Tech, you will gain the trust of the project team, maintain high levels of operational quality and efficiency, and effectively promote the end product to the user community and management. This position reports to the Director of Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
Keep projects on schedule and within budget; Estimate the probability that project will complete successfully on or before the deadline, identifying anything that reduces the probability of successful completion, or would increase the likelihood of successful completion before deadline
Report program progress and related KPIs regularly to management executives.
Coordinate the efforts of Architects, Frontend and Backend Developers, QA and DevOps, assuring effective cross-team collaboration
Track technical progress and issues: Identify solutions for program problems as they arise, remove blockers
Review tests, code, and designs frequently to ensure that program goals are met
Help maintain internal IT infrastructure/permissions in support of all business functions
Manage the development of new products and features to create new revenue sources and profit growth; Have an impact on the consumer mobility market
Manage the quality and efficiency of production deployed systems, overseeing excellence of the technical teams supporting deployments and operations
Skills
Highly detail-oriented technical professionals with strong leadership skills who know how to turn ideas into production quality products. A successful Technical Project/Development Manager has strong communication, vision, and interpersonal skills, balanced by a detailed knowledge of methodology and tools, plus strong analysis and problem-solving skills with an understanding of the technology being developed. Essential skills include:
Technical competency: Spot unrealistic estimates, faulty reasons for falling behind schedule, requests for unneeded software, etc.; Have sufficient knowledge to understand and question requests coming from the technical staff, and to evaluate whether estimates are reasonable; Promote security awareness; Be confident at the whiteboard
Experienced personnel management: Because Technical Project/Development Managers supervise design, development and test teams, strong leadership and management skills are essential
Communication: Use written communication skills to deliver regular program reports, and verbal communication to effectively talk to team members and monitor program progress; Technical Project/Development Managers must be able to articulate the final vision of the product and sell its benefits to all constituents, including the end-user, with an ability to explain technical issues to non-technical members of the community
Listening: Be an active listener to anyone who verbalizes concerns and provide early warning of problems that may lie ahead;
Motivational: Bestow recognition and praise to those who achieve their objectives (ideally in front of their peers); Maintain a high bar for quality
Organized: Use organization skills to manage multiple facets of a large-scale project and track progress for several programs at once; Adhere to standard methodologies & processes, and enforce standard project management methodology and organizational processes
Efficient Time manager & Multitasker: VP of Tech works with strict deadlines, time management is an essential component of this job;
Problem-solver: Use problem-solving skills to isolate and solve problems with programs to keep progress on track
Proactive: Take a clear sense of ownership and be self-motivated; recognizes the importance of continuous improvement and identify opportunities to streamline/optimize current practices to shorten delivery schedules, improve quality, and/or increase efficiency
Qualifications
Required:
5-7+ years of progressively more responsible experience in directly relevant similar roles
Bachelor degree, preferably in a technical, management, or business administration field
Experience implementing Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology
Experience managing Agile projects and Scaled Agile (SAFe) programs
Experience with program/portfolio management toolsets (JIRA/Portfolio/Confluence)
Experience working with Mobile (iOS/Android) and E2E testing
Solid understanding of Internet technologies (TCP/IP, HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS), REST, JSON and other relevant API standards like REST, OAuth, SAML
Experience managing distributed/remote teams in a matrixed environment
Willing and able to travel internationally based on job requirements (approx 20%)
Preferred:
MBA or another related advanced degree
Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), CSM or Agile Certifications
Background with: Java, Salesforce, Data storage, Cloud technologies, CI/CD platforms
Experience in B2C markets
