Infrastructure engineer

Kyiv · $3500 · 8 years of experience · Advanced/Fluent

I'm a researcher and devops enthusiast always looking to further improve upon what I already know and love doing, looking for mostly mid-level positions. I enjoy working with multiple languages, always exploring, and bringing ideas from one to another. I'm not the usual certified developer, dba, or sysadmin by the template. My ideal role would be to work in a team of talented infrastructure engineers, working on mostly backend / systems type projects. I love to branch out and learn new technologies and although I spend most of my time writing bash/python scripts, I'm happy to work with just about anything, so long as I'm learning. Cryptia Infrastructure Engineer & Co-founder 2009 - Present (about 11 years) Working in a small Team on a messenger project with strong cryptography (ecdsa). Collaborating for application infrastructure, implementing various development environment. Got experience with Qt/QML, understanding the mechanics of software change. Debugging and troubleshooting skills on linux. Sound Programming experience with ALSA driver api. Experience with virtualisation, testing and deployment automation. Developing Kubernetes architectures for highly-available service management across the entire infrastructure. Currently researching horizontal autoscaling db solutions. Credit Europe Bank N.V. Lead infrastructure engineer, contractor 2017 - Present (almost 3 years) Working remotely, responsibilities include R&D, VoIP developments, architecture, design. Created Asterisk callback and call recording solutions from scratch, still developing and expanding functionality in accordance to company's needs. Classic Postgres DBA tasks, database development. Technology research (centralised logging, container management, data engineering), bash/python programming. LLC "1 GB" hosting company Linux sysadmin 2011 - 2014 (almost 3 years) Facing mostly problems related to the web hosting industry. Automated tasks by writing a bunch of bash and python scripts for hosting environment. Kernel re-configuration & parameter tuning for openVZ. Monitoring & troubleshooting with performance related issues. Managing rebooting & part replacement activities. Skills Working with containers and orchestration tools - Docker, Kubernetes etc… Over 6 years of experience with various rdbms platforms. Take part in in Cryptia team of ambitious 40-somethings, participation in design and implementation of the system architecture.

Linux, Docker, bash, Python, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, scylladb, strongswan

Participation in Cryptia design and implementation of the system architecture.

I value: User friendliness. Simplicity (code-wise), explicitness, scalability, maintainability, standard compliance. Here is some stuff I want to learn and achieve in the future (Without any order, that'd indicates prevalence) Qt, Erlang, Go. Prefer more expressive languages that manage to not be cumbersome with syntax. Realistic schedules are the key to creating good software. It's important to gain the trust of the team in technical acumen: mandatory code reviews have been an invaluable tool in my experience so far. It lets to become familiar with everyone's skill level which is invaluable when trying to give estimates and quotes to stakeholders. The subprocess of task formation is team-dependent and cannot occur in isolation. I assume that dev team knows best how to debug, and test the product. It's necessary to fix bugs as Team find them, and charge the time back to the original task. Anyone can't schedule a single bug fix in advance, because you don't know what bugs you're going to have. This will help predict the time it takes to get fully debugged code.

Solutions/Systems Architect | Lead

Kyiv · $7000 · 6 years of experience · Advanced/Fluent

Over the past years, I took an active role in several projects - ranging from small startups on a bootstrapping stage to huge international customers with thousands of requests per second. Since I came from a DevOps background I have a problem-solving attitude. There were a few cases when the potential client was about to go away, but in the end, I and my team were able to offer the right solution for his problems. I know how to deal with tasks that have some degree of uncertainty as I've been involved in pre-sale activities a lot. At the moment, I am leading an offshore team of several DevOps engineers on a cutting edge product that is based on Kubernetes, consulting a few other companies about migrating to a cloud-native architecture. Main technologies I know how to deal with: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Python. I am interested in new challenges, so if your technology is not on the list, feel free to contact anyway and we'll find the solution.

AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Python, CI/CD, Monitoring, VMware, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Cassandra, MySQL, ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ, Git, Linux, XP, Docker, Jira, REST API, SQL, Event Driven Architecture, Microservices, Jenkins, PostgreSQL, Helm, Fluentd, Logging, Agile, Scrum, MongoDB

A few projects I was working on: *** Project: PAAS for a big international customer. Technologies: Kubernetes, Microservices, IBM cloud. Role: Lead/Architect Achievements: As a part of the architecture board designed an internal platform that allowed a customer to decrease deployment time and save operational costs. Led a team (3 people) and was communicating on requirements with a remote onsite team. *** Project: PoC for a potential customer, a serverless platform for code analysis Technologies: AWS (Lambda, API gateway, S3, DynamoDB), ECS, etc). Role: Systems Architect Achievements: As a part of a small team designed a PoC for a potential customer with very limited time constraints and very broad requirements. *** Project: Migration to Kubernetes Technologies: Kubernetes, Mesosphere, BigData infrastructure Role: Sr DevOps Achievements: Succesful migration of a big data stack migration to Kubernetes in order to achieve more flexibility and fully leverage its potential. This is a very small fraction of what I was doing, but let's chat to see if we match each other! :)

I am interested in finding a company where I can fully use my potential and knowledge to add more value. I'd like to work on systems architecture, solving complex tasks and removing bottlenecks.

I believe that software is fundamentally changing the world, and that those changes are overwhelmingly positive. My mission is to enable organizations to build and deliver that software better, faster, and safer.
I have been lab and operations engineer, team leader. My recent technical interests have been focused on cloud computing, developer platforms and tools, and open source.
While I love technology, I'm even more interested in the intersection between people and technology as part of a larger system.
I analyze and diagnose troubled networks and redesign them to be efficient, reliable, and scalable. What I bring to systems and network design is the knowledge that each component is part of the system—users, applications, software, developers, and hardware—and every one has to be taken into account. Specialties: network, software, and service architecture and reliability, team building, physical infrastructure, virtualization, cloud architecture and scalability Deep knowledges of Linux and virtualization. Large scale Linux based computing and tuning. Building infrastructure for large scale operations (compute, storage and network). Network operations. IT Management. Fast learning and adaptation.

I prefer small team with interesting developing product that could handle new technologies. Definitely, not Windows environment or local/office environment.
